The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has scaled up its enforcement action against defaulters in property taxes, sealing seven properties in the city for not paying dues worth ₹1.8crore. The drive was conducted on Tuesday, as part of the larger effort by the civic body to improve its revenue flow and ensure proper financing for necessary urban infrastructure and services.
According to authority sources, this enforcement activity is being conducted by zonal taxation officer Pankaj Kumar, together with tax inspector Pankaj Saluja. The properties were sealed as a result of the failure of previous notices served to the concerned property owners. MCG’s actions demonstrate the corporation’s tough stance against erring property owners.
The sealed properties include two in Kherki Daula, which owe ₹30.82 lakh and ₹19.72 lakh in property tax dues, and two others in Mohammadpur Jharsa, with pending dues of ₹27.35 lakh and ₹22.65 lakh, respectively. In addition, one property each in Narsinghpur and Pace City-1 had dues of ₹14.04 lakh and ₹18.17 lakh, respectively. One property in Palam Vihar, with pending dues of around ₹52 lakh, was also sealed in the drive.
Speaking to the press, the MCG commissioner Pradeep Dahiya said that the property tax is the key source of revenue for the corporation. The property tax is the lifeline of the revenue generated by the Municipal Corporation. It directly aids the activities of the corporation regarding cleanliness, roads, sewage, water supply, and all other public aspects. “The sealing of properties will continue against people who have not paid the taxes despite issuing various notices to them,” said the commissioner.
The commissioner appealed to the owners to settle their pending dues on time to avoid any kind of actions being taken against them, and the coming weeks will see even greater actions being taken by the administration. It is revealed that such sealing operations will continue in all areas of Gurugram.
This time around too, the amount of ₹7 crore was collected through enforcement in just one day. This is evident that the compliances have shown improvement due to the tight measures. Now, the total amount of property tax paid by the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram in the current financial year is approximately ₹285 crore. It is expected to further enhance by March 2026.
In a bid to enhance efficiency and widen the tax base, MCG has also adopted technology-driven solutions. This year, both the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram and the Municipal Corporation of Manesar (MCM) have introduced artificial intelligence (AI)-based tools to strengthen property tax collection. Using AI-enabled systems, properties with unpaid dues are being identified more accurately, residents are being contacted systematically, and assistance is being provided to resolve discrepancies and facilitate payments.
Civic officials believe that the combination of stricter enforcement and technology-led identification will significantly improve revenue realisation while promoting voluntary compliance. The move is also expected to bring greater transparency and accountability to the property tax administration process, benefiting both the civic body and taxpayers in the long run.
