ED Cracks Down on Mahira Group, Attaches Rs 557 Crore Worth of Land and Funds in Gurugram Scam Case
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached assets valued at Rs 557.43 crore in connection with an alleged real estate scam involving Mahira Group companies in Gurugram. The attached assets include 35 acres of residential and commercial land and fixed deposits worth nearly Rs 97 lakh. The investigation stems from multiple FIRs filed by Gurugram Police against Mahira Infratech Pvt Ltd and its associated firms, which allegedly used forged documents to secure licences for affordable housing projects in Sectors 68, 103, and 104 of Gurugram.
Over Rs 616 crore was collected from more than 3,700 homebuyers for these projects, which have not been completed. According to the ED, the funds were diverted through inflated construction costs and bogus invoices. The money was then routed to other group companies as loans and was allegedly used for the personal benefit of company promoters and directors. The agency claims the scam has left thousands of homebuyers without the homes they paid for.
Earlier attachments in this case amounted to Rs 81.07 crore, with several rounds of action taken in February 2024 and March 2025. Among those under investigation are Mahira Group promoter Sikandar Singh, former MLA Dharam Singh Chhoker, and Vikas Chhoker. Sikandar Singh was arrested in April 2024. Dharam Singh Chhoker, who faced six non-bailable warrants, was arrested in May 2025. Vikas Chhoker remains absconding, with a court-issued proclamation against him.
The ED has filed a prosecution complaint outlining the alleged misuse of funds, diversion of homebuyers’ payments, and submission of false documents to secure licences. The Special Court in Gurugram has taken cognisance of the complaint, and further proceedings are underway. The agency continues to examine bank transactions, corporate records, and other evidence as part of its probe. According to officials, more attachments and arrests are possible as the investigation progresses.
