UP Govt. Clears ₹270 Cr Interchange Project to Improve Noida Airport Connectivity

In a significant push to enhance regional connectivity and support the upcoming Noida International Airport, the Uttar Pradesh government has approved the construction of a long-awaited interchange linking the Yamuna Expressway with the Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE). With an estimated project cost of ₹270 crore, this vital infrastructure upgrade is expected to considerably reduce travel time and congestion for commuters from several key regions including Greater Noida, Palwal, Kundali, Panipat, and Meerut.

The approved interchange project will feature a comprehensive layout comprising four loops and four ramps spread over an 11-kilometer stretch. This design aims to ensure seamless and uninterrupted travel between the Yamuna Expressway and the EPE, eliminating the need for circuitous detours that currently plague thousands of daily commuters. Notably, the interchange will offer a direct route for travelers moving between Agra and regions like Ghaziabad, Hapur, and Meerut—who until now have had to navigate through heavily congested urban corridors such as Pari Chowk and Kasna.

Currently, commuters coming from Agra and Mathura must endure a 20-kilometer detour to reach the EPE, often passing through traffic-heavy zones. With the new interchange in place, vehicles will be able to bypass these bottlenecks entirely. The improved linkage is expected to enhance not only speed and efficiency but also traffic safety, as drivers will no longer have to contend with the high-volume urban routes.

Another key beneficiary of the project will be the Noida International Airport, which is nearing the final stages of construction and set to become operational in the near future. The direct connectivity offered by the new interchange is poised to facilitate swift airport access from both western and northern regions of Uttar Pradesh as well as from parts of Haryana.

The Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has played a central role in pushing this project forward. According to YEIDA CEO Arun Vir Singh, the entire cost of the project will be borne by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), which will also be responsible for executing, operating, and maintaining the interchange, including the toll collection systems.

The land acquisition process has already been completed, with a 60-hectare parcel near Jaganpur-Afzalpur village, approximately 10 kilometers from the Yamuna Expressway’s zero point, earmarked for the construction. While the project was originally proposed more than five years ago, it faced repeated delays. However, with formal approval now secured, construction is expected to commence shortly and be completed within a year.

Once operational, the interchange is expected to transform regional road connectivity, streamline airport access, and ease traffic for thousands of daily commuters—representing a long-overdue step forward in infrastructure development for western Uttar Pradesh.
