The Karnataka government will distribute 42,346 houses built by the Slum Development Board in Hubballi and other parts of the state on November 29. The event will be held under the leadership of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Housing Minister BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan confirmed the details during a press briefing on Sunday.

The venue for the distribution has been identified on Old Mantur Road and covers approximately 17–18 acres. The space can accommodate around 1.5 lakh people. The minister said the government is planning the programme as a large-scale public function. Former mayor Anil Kumar Patil and other officials inspected the site along with the minister.

Minister Khan stated that when CM Siddaramaiah was in office, approval was given to construct 1.8 lakh houses under the Slum Board and 47,863 houses under the Rajiv Gandhi Housing Scheme. The government had a target of building 2.3 lakh houses. However, during the tenure of former Chief Ministers H.D. Kumaraswamy and B.S. Yediyurappa, no houses were distributed under these programmes.

The minister also outlined the funding for the project. Currently, constructing a house costs around ₹7.5 lakh. The central government provides ₹1.5 lakh under the PM Awas Yojana, and beneficiaries are required to contribute approximately ₹4 lakh, which is often difficult for poor families. To address this, the Karnataka government will cover the beneficiary contribution. The state will provide ₹1.5 lakh for general beneficiaries and ₹2 lakh for SC/ST families. The total estimated cost for building 2.3 lakh houses is ₹9,500 crore.

Minister Khan addressed political issues, stating that there is no internal conflict in the Congress party. He described reports of a ‘November revolution’ as media speculation and confirmed that CM Siddaramaiah will complete his full term. He added that decisions on cabinet expansion or reshuffle are left to the party high command. Khan criticized the BJP for internal divisions, noting that five groups exist within the party.

The distribution programme will allow beneficiaries to receive housing without financial burden. The project is part of the state’s ongoing effort to provide affordable housing to families in need. The event is expected to be one of the largest housing distribution programmes in Karnataka, with thousands of families receiving keys to their homes on the same day.

The state government’s role in funding both construction and beneficiary contributions marks a significant step in addressing housing shortages in urban and semi-urban areas. Officials say the programme will improve living conditions and provide legal ownership of homes for residents who were previously living in slum conditions.
